Abstract

In 2007, Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People published 'Playing it Safe: A report on outdoor activities for looked-after children'. This report raised serious concerns that children were not getting the opportunity to engage in normal outdoor activities because if an accident occured, adults were afraid of being sued or ‘getting the blame’ - particularly for young people in residential care. In response, this guidance and good practice has been issued, which promotes and encourages outdoor activities for children and young people in residential child care.
