Abstract

"This handbook and the accompanying materials are part of an overall package, which includes direct training, that is intended to enhance the knowledge and skills of caseworkers who work directly with parents of children and young people who have special educational needs (SEN). The handbook is intended to ensure that SEN caseworkers: understand the importance of working in partnership with parents; develop an appropriate focus on progress and outcomes for children and young people; reflect on parents’ experiences of the SEN system; consider how they can improve the confidence of parents; develop skills in communicating effectively with parents; understand key areas of legislation and parents’ rights. Embedded throughout the handbook is a series of exercises designed to support the key messages." - Page 3.
