Download You're welcome - Quality criteria for young people friendly health services (PDF, 241K)Self-review tool for quality criteria for young people friendly health services (2011 edition)This work has local area support. In England, 81% of commissioners have recommended that local services implement the guidelines. As part of this local leadership, 64% are involving young people in rating and evaluating experiences of health services. The guidelines can reinforce young people’s social responsibility as life-long users of the NHS and encourage them to share in the decisions made about their health. Adolescence is a time when autonomy increases and patterns of health-related behaviour that impact on long-term health begin to set. Using the World Health Organization (WHO) definition, England has 6.5 million young people in this cohort. The quality criteria help local areas to maximise the opportunity of this unique life-stage by: - involving young people in service improvement - enhancing patient experience - increasing young people’s opportunity to share in decisions about their health
